This Mother’s Son.
Beneath
a
fading orange sun,
not unlike the somber rainy day
he
left to serve his country
she stands
alone
remembering his warm smile
and bright young eyes.
his mind callous cold
to all entreats she made
asking him stay.
She could do no more.
Then
in a strange country
on an insignificant desert street
of a small planet
within a spiral galaxy
at the edge of the milky way
his years ended.
Now
holding a folded flag
carefully clasping two metal tags
that identified his body
she weeps.
Beyond this moment
only
memories of him.
He was her only one
this mothers son.
This Mothers Son appeared in the print edition of Polluto Magazine and now appears in ifs IMAGINE FANTASY SCIENCE FICTION.
